Hi, I'm Bidisha.

If you're looking for children's books that your little one will genuinely enjoy—not just read once and forget—I'm so glad you're here.

I'm a full-time mum to a fiercely independent 7-year-old girl. We've been reading together every night since she was about a year old. Over the years I've watched her go from pointing at pictures and repeating favourite words to disappearing with a book because she simply wants to finish one more chapter. Watching that love of reading grow has been one of the happiest parts of parenting.

Books, though, have been a big part of my life for much longer than that.

Before becoming a mum, I spent more than ten years in publishing. I ran my own publishing business and worked as an editor with publishers including Pearson, Cambridge University Press, S. Chand, and Encyclopaedia Britannica. Those years taught me how children's books are put together, what makes a story engaging, and why some books stay with children long after they've been read.

Once my daughter came along, those two worlds naturally came together.

Like many parents, I found that choosing children's books wasn't nearly as easy as it seemed. There are thousands of wonderful-looking books available, but not every one becomes a favourite. Some are read once and forgotten, while others are requested night after night.

That's what inspired me to start Potpourri Bookery.

Here you'll find honest book reviews, carefully chosen book lists, bedtime favourites, story collections, seasonal recommendations, and ideas for helping children develop a lifelong love of reading. My focus is mainly on babies, toddlers and young readers, with books that families can truly enjoy together.

How I Choose the Books I Recommend

Our home is always full of books.

Many of the books featured here come from our regular visits to the library, while others are books we've chosen to buy because we know they'll be read again and again.

I don't recommend books simply because they're popular, and I don't accept sponsorships that influence what I write about. Every book I feature is chosen for one simple reason: I genuinely believe it's worth sharing.

Each recommendation is shaped by two perspectives—my experience as a children's book editor, and my daughter's wonderfully honest opinion as the reader who matters most.

I hope this little corner of the internet helps you discover stories that become favourites in your own home too.
